July 21, 2010 - Wealthy Buyers Get Cozy Forbes.com
|

To find out what the ultra-rich spend their money on, just climb into one of their beds. When it comes to luxury items for the home, a recent report shows that the biggest bump in spending is on mattresses and box springs.
Spectacularly opulent mansions may be popping up on the market more frequently--take the recently sold Bel Air estate Le Belvedere, which went for a price between $47 million and $72 million last month, or the Versailles, a $75 million mega-mansion just put up for sale in Orlando, Fla. But in general, people who already live the good life are not showing off their wealth.

A NAR survey showed first-time homebuyers accounted for 46 percent of all home purchases in May, down from 49 percent in April, while investors accounted for 14 percent of home sales

"2009 was so rank and so off, it was just scary," said John Helmering, a broker in the Vail Valley. "Realtors in the Vail Valley have been through the worst time period ever

|
| |
Patrick Wilhelm thinks he and his family have a plan for the future of the high-end real estate market in the Vail Valley.

The family's original plan was to build something new. But that plan has been put off until next year or 2012, so the idea is starting with just one existing home at Cordillera.
